Created in fulfillment of commitments made in the Seoul Declaration of May 2024, this institute emerges at a pivotal moment for AI governance. As international competition intensifies, the scientific community issues increasingly urgent warnings, and the EU AI Act takes full effect, INESIA aims to equip France with cutting-edge capabilities for evaluating artificial intelligence systems.
The institute serves a dual purpose: to ensure effective oversight of advanced AI systems rapidly deploying across France and Europe, while simultaneously strengthening French influence in international AI governance debates. With INESIA's mandate and structure now established, the immediate priority is defining its precise areas of focus and operation.
